IFUT LAUNCHES MEDIA AWARD FOR WRITING
CONNECTED WITH HIGHER EDUCATION
AWARD OF €1,000 WILL BE MADE
 
PROFESSOR JOHN HORGAN AND PROFESSOR ÁINE HYLAND TO BE JUDGES
 
As part of its celebration to mark the 50th Anniversary of its foundation, the Irish Federation of University Teachers (IFUT) has announced that it will sponsor an award of €1,000 for excellence in writing on the theme of Higher Education or related to Higher Education.
 
The award will be made in early 2014 and will be in respect of work published in Ireland (R.O.1. and N.I.) during the year 31 December 2012 to 31 December 2013.
 
For the purposes of the Award the following will be deemed to qualify as “writing”.

  • An Article or Series of Articles published in a newspaper, magazine, book or pamphlet.
  • A News Report published as above.
  • A Programme or Series of Programme featured in the broadcast media.
  • Material published on the Internet or on Blogs.

 
Entries for consideration for the award may be made by the person who produced it or by any other person provided the producer of the work consents to the submission.
 
The judges who will have the final choice of the award’s recipient (or recipients in the event of a shared award) will be Professor John Horgan* and Professor Áine Hyland*. The judges’ decision will be final and there will be no appeals process.
 
*Professor John Horgan is a former Professor of Journalism in Dublin City University and is currently the Press Ombudsman of Ireland.
*Professor Áine Hyland has been Vice President of University College Cork and was also Professor of Education in UCC. She is regarded as one of the most influential people in the development of Irish education policy.
 
There is no nomination form needed in respect of the Award. Nominees should simply supply five (5) copies of the nominated work along with a covering letter explaining why the award is merited in the case specified. Nomination may be made by post or by e-mail. All nominations should be sent only to the General Secretary of IFUT.
